SCHOOL YEAR 2009 – 2010

Adult Quiz Night:
Grab some friends and join us in an evening of socializing and trivia at the Hollywood House to benefit the PTA. A night not to be missed! Medium time involvement. Usually takes place in March.

Birthday Books:
Each child receives a book on their birthday from our PTA. Wouldn’t you like to pick out the books? This is an easy, low involvement position.

Campbell Soup Labels/ General Mills Box Tops:
Send in your Campbell Soup Labels/Box Tops in your child’s backpack with their name and number of labels/box tops in an envelope. We earn points from the labels/box tops collected, which can then turn into cash to purchase items for our school. Low time involvement a few times each school year.

Christmas Ornaments:
After our Christmas program in December, each child receives an ornament from our PTA. Feeling creative, then join this committee. Low time involvement. Once per year.

Cultural Arts:
Join this committee and bring ideas that relate to dance, art, theater, and art appreciation. This committee brings the artist-in-residence to our school, plus coordinates assemblies, the artist in the classroom program, and provides one field trip to each grade each year. Medium to high time involvement. Some type of cultural arts activity takes place most months of the school year.

Ecology Club:
This is a monthly after school club designed to educate our children about their relationship with animals, plants and their environment. Medium to high time involvement. Meets monthly.

Election Day Bake Sale:
On election days, we ask volunteers to bring in baked or store-bought bakery to be sold in the Hollywood lobby. Low time involvement. Once or twice per year.

Fall Festival:
A fun welcome back to school event for all school families. In the past, has included carnival games, food, prizes, face painting, pony rides, and more! One Saturday in the Fall — alternates years with the Ice Cream Social. Requires many volunteers! Medium time involvement.

Family Science:
This is a one day event for the entire family, designed to educate the children about a certain area of science. Medium to high involvement. One time per year, usually in March.

Field Day:
This is a fun-filled day for our children at the end of the school year. Kids run, hop skip and jump through lots of activities, followed by a lunch and yearbook signing party! Medium to high involvement. One time per year, last week of school.

Fifth Grade Games Night (Hauser edition):
This is a traditional event for the fifth graders in our district. Parent volunteers from each of the grade schools coordinate the evening which is held at Hauser Jr. High each year. This is a way for our fifth graders to meet peers from the other schools. Low to medium involvement. One time per year.

Fifth Grade Games Night (Hollywood edition):
This is a monthly evening for the fifth graders from our school only. Parent volunteers help with snacks and activities in the gym. A fun way for our fifth graders to have a great final year together at Hollywood. Medium involvement. Monthly.

Flower Sale:
Ever wonder where your neighbor gets those gorgeous plants for their containers and gardens? That would be the Hollywood PTA flower sale! Low to medium time involvement. One time per year.

Founders Day Dinner:
This is a dinner/PTA event attended by faculty and staff, superintendent, past and current PTA officers, past and present volunteers and parents, At this dinner, we honor parent volunteers in our fifth grade class as a for all they have done while at our school. Low to medium involvement. One time per year, generally February.

Fun Lunch:
This weekly lunch program is favorite of kids and parents alike! An order form is sent home for you to purchase meals. High involvement. Organize and serve once a week.

Gift Wrap:
This fundraiser earns money through the sale of a multitude of items: gift wrap, ribbon, gift bags, among others. A catalog is sent home in the fall for you to share with friends and family to stock up for the holidays. There are even prizes for high sellers! Medium involvement. Once per year.

Great Books Lunch Bunch:
Any child in third through fifth can participate in this reading group. Each child purchases a book from the Great Books Foundation, and twice a month the children meet at lunch or after school with parent volunteers to discuss the assigned story and do activities in relating to the story. This is a great way to assist kids with reading with comprehension while having fun!. New volunteers attend a one-day training class through the Great Books Foundation. Medium involvement. Meets two times monthly, January – May.

Holiday Gift Shoppe:
We turn our gym into a store for the children to do their Holiday shopping. Volunteers are needed for set up, wrapping, and clean up. We also need donations of boxes in various sizes, wrapping paper and bows. This is a fun event and a great way to start your holiday season! Medium to high involvement. Year round commitment.

Decorations Committee:

Hollywood Cookbook Fundraiser:
This is a new fundraiser this year. This project will involve collecting recipes from parents and the community in order to create a cookbook that will be sold back to the parents and community. Medium involvement. A one-time project.

Hospitality:
This person or people are responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and stocked with paper products, coffee, other miscellaneous supplies. Low to medium involvement. As needed.

KidsArt:
This company takes your child’s artwork and turns it into a wonderful keepsake. Forms are distributed to each child and then must be collected (with orders) to return to KidsArt. Low involvement. Once per year.

Library:
Once a week the children go to the library where they check out books which are due back before the next library day. Volunteers restock the books as they come in, assist students finding books, and sometimes read to class. Low time involvement, depending on number of volunteers per class. Once a week, possibly less frequently.

Little Symphony:
This is a district-wide musical event that children in 2nd through 5th grade attend at Hauser Junior High three times a year. Low involvement. One or two brief meetings per year.

Market Day:
Market Day orders are received each month. Volunteers are needed to set up and distribute the items and clean up the gym on the day orders are picked up. Volunteers are also needed to supervise children during unpacking and setting up. Market Day is a great fundraiser for our school. Medium involvement. Monthly.

New Parent Committee/Teddy Bear Picnic:
First grade parents are responsible for greeting Kindergarten and/or other parents new to Hollywood at the tea on the first day of school. Each volunteer makes a new parent their “buddy” for their first year at Hollywood School. A chairperson is required to put volunteers in contact with new families. Organizes a picnic prior to first day of school for incoming Kindergarten Families.

Newsletter:
A monthly newsletter is sent home in your child’s backpack, containing important information about what is going on at school that month. If you have any items that need to be placed in the newsletter, you can send them in to the office. Chairman should be able to attend monthly PTA meetings. Medium to high involvement. Monthly.

Nominating Committee:
Volunteers are needed to contact parents who may be interested in being on the PTA Board. The election is held in April with installation of officers in May. Low involvement. Once per year.

Preschool Screening:
Volunteers from each school in our district are needed to work the preschool screening days at one of the district grade schools. Low involvement. Once per year, in the spring.

Room Parents:
Volunteers from each grade coordinate parent volunteers for that class for different activities, like chaperones for field trips, treats for class parties, special requests for supplies or help with classroom activities. Medium involvement. Monthly.

School Bricks:
Take orders for brick pavers to be placed in front walkway of Hollywood School. Low involvement. Take orders twice per year and submit orders for manufacturing.

School Supplies:
Take orders for a prepackaged school supply company to ship for registration. This is not a fundraiser. Low involvement. Once per year, in the spring.

Sock Hop:
This is an informal dance for all Hollywood students and families. There is no cost to attend. Snacks and beverages are sold; chair and committee handles decorations, hiring dj, coordinating with the yearbook photographer, assigning volunteers to help that night, etc. . Medium involvement. Once per year, in the early spring.

Spiritwear:
Outfit you and your kids in the latest Hollywood gear! Take orders and coordinate order submission and distributing products to families. Low involvement. Once or twice per school year.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon:
In early May, teachers and staff are honored at the appreciation luncheon, hosted by the outgoing 5th grade class. Low to medium involvement. Once per year.

Website/Technology:
Help keep Hollywood families up to date through our website and email reminders. Medium involvement. Monthly or as needed.

Wee Deliver:
This is an internal mail service that our children and families can participate. The children send mail to each other, teachers or staff once a month. Parents can drop off a note to your child(ren) in the blue mail boxes located at school. Medium involvement. Monthly.

Yearbook:
At the end of the year, each of our children receives a yearbook that displays all that goes on at Hollywood School. Volunteers are needed to photograph school events and coordinate design and printing of the yearbook. Any pictures that you may take throughout the year can also be sent to the committee via the office. They will be returned to you. High involvement. Monthly.
