Co-directed by Dave Mason and Laura Lynch, Willy Wonka will be a multi-media experience, with original film sequences interspersed with live performances. According to Mr. Mason, “We filmed about a third of it, so the musical will be a hybrid stage/screen event, with three movie screens, a 25-foot boat, giant mushrooms large enough for small children to walk on, and an edible set.”

“The Hauser spring musical is filled with sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys and girls dancing, singing and acting,” said Ms. Lynch. “It’s an amazing collaboration of talented students, community members, parents, and teachers all working hard to produce a unique musical which combines film and live theater.”

RAIN is presenting an evening with Paul O’Malley, Clinical Psychologist from LADSE. Paul will discuss Behavior Issues with children with a question and Answer period following.

Dear District 96 Parents :

As Summer approaches we all look forward to time away from the “routine” and hopefully some pleasant warm weather. We’d like to extend an invitation to all parents and their children with IEP/504s to connect over the summer break and learn more about R.A.I.N and the many programs we have to help each other in navigating the special education road. We are looking to grow R.A.I.N into a phenomenal network of parents and students dedicated to our mission of awareness, education, support, networking, and acceptance of students with learning differences.

We’ll have many great opportunities over summer to share our knowledge and work together. We hope you can find the time to bring your ideas and benefit from some of the many events we are planning for the summer:

Recognizing that summer is a busy time for all if you can’t make it to any of the above events we’d still love to hear from you, and know what topics are of interest for future discussions and events. Please send us an email with your information as we’d like to gather a parent directory for R.A.I.N in an effort to effectively communicate our events and plans to the parents of children with IEPs and 504 plans. Have a great summer and we hope to see you in August for a picnic where we can all gear up for the 2011-2012 school year! Students will also be selling their artwork and half of proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Jen’s Kids. Jen’s Kids is an organization that provides therapeutic art activities for hospitalized children.

The Art Show will begin at 7:00 P.M. and will end at 8:30 P.M.

“Race to Nowhere”

Ames PTA is hosting an important event: A viewing of Race to Nowhere.  Race to Nowhere is a documentary that provides a unique and eye-opening look into education and parenting as it exists today.  This documentary has received rave reviews and has resulted in large attendance at many school-sponsored screenings.  This is a unique opportunity for our community to come together to view this important movie and to engage in a discussion on these topics.
