Track ‘em for Ecology Club -Ecology Club members learned about Project Squirrel yesterday, which is a joint undertaking of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and UIC. In this area, we have two types of squirrels–the red squirrel and the gray squirrel–and Project Squirrel has a spot on the web (www.projectsquirrel.org) where kids can become citizen scientists and help monitor our Urban Game Park (ask your child if he remembers what that means!).
At our next meeting, we will track squirrels during a walk to the oak savannah, but please encourage your your nature-lover to see if he/she can identify the squirrels living in your backyard (your personal urban game park). The page is easy to fill out and does not require extensive studying of the squirrel’s behavior.
