RAIN BARREL RAFFLE

RAIN BARREL RAFFLE Form

Help raise money for the Hollywood PTA by purchasing raffle tickets to win one of two rain barrels with designs inspired by all Hollywood students’ rain garden art, Created in school with Mrs. Mathis, and painted on to the rain barrels by Hollywood 4th and 5th graders.

The rain barrels are from LaGrange’s Green Scene Chicago, which uses 55-gallon food-grade barrels. The rain barrels have all brass no-kink spigots and overflow valves, installed in a way that prevents leaking. A mesh screen on the lid prevents debris falling into the barrel and keeps out mosquitos and other insects.

There are many benefits to using a rain barrel, including lower water bill costs and reducing the amount of water flowing to sewer treatment facilities. Plus, these rain barrels have the added benefit of featuring Hollywood kids’ ideas about gardens!

Tickets are available for purchase now, for $1 for one ticket and $5 for six. You can return the order form below with your money, in an envelope marked “Rain Barrels” and we’ll drop the tickets into our raffle box. Tickets will also be available at upcoming events. Two winners, one for each rain barrel, will be picked following the dedication ceremony for the rain garden sculpture in May.

The form and payment can be sent to Hollywood School, Attn: Rain Barrel Raffle, 3423 Hollywood Avenue, Brookfield, IL 60513 or dropped off at the school.

Learn More About our Artist in Residence Project!

The first week of our Hollywood School Artist in Residence Project has been a great success!  All students have had the opportunity to meet with Ms. Kazimieraitiene to create a ceramic piece that will be a part of the sculpture added to our Rain Garden.
The 4th and 5th graders at Hollywood have created a website to document the progress of the residency throughout the next month.  Please access the Artist in Residence website at the following link: http://209.7.1.4/~ArtistBlog/ArtistBlog/Welcome.html.  This website is a work in progress and will be updated weekly.   Enjoy watching the progress of this exciting project, and thank you 4th and 5th graders for putting together the site!
Also, please plan to attend the Artist in Residence Family Night Tuesday, April 27, 7 – 8 pm in the gym. Meet our resident artist and create a piece of art to include in our sculpture or to take home. Please email kierithfk@yahoo.com and let us know you’ll be there.

Earth Week Update

Don’t forget the many fun activities planned for the rest of Earth Week:
Wednesday is Green Wheel Day! Walk, bike, or skate to school and receive a sweet treat when you arrive. Also, on Wednesday afternoon, 4th and 5th graders are invited to help paint the rain barrels the PTA will be raffling off. The designs for the rain barrels came from all Hollywood students through Mrs. Mathis’s work with them on rain garden ideas.
Thursday is Decorate an Earth Poster Day! Go to the Hollywood e-backpack to find a link to a coloring page your child can color and return. The posters will be hung up in the gym.

Friday is Litter Patrol Day! Bring in the most interesting piece of trash this morning (collected on your way to school only, please) and you might win a prize. After school, a cool treat to get the weekend started…
All Week Long: Send in your broken crayons for recycling through the Hollywood Girl Scouts. There is a bin in the front hall to put them in. The crayons will be sorted by color and sent to SCARCE, which turns them into larger crayons for kids and adults who need them.
