Concerned about Funding Crossing Guards?

The Village of Riverside is discussing not funding crossing guards throughout District 96 beginning in fiscal year 2010.

This would affect the safety of the children throughout the District and also includes the intersection at First Avenue, which is used by some Hauser and many RBHS students.

Parents and concerned citizens throughout the District are not too late to have voice in this decision. On Monday, November 16 (this coming Monday) at 7:30 pm. in Room 4 of the Riverside Village Hall, there will be a public forum on the Village’s budget, including the crossing guard issue.

Some points to consider are:

- Community-wide crossing guards should remain under public safety; it should remain a community/village responsibility

- The police dept. is in a better position than the district to hire, train and equip staff who manages traffic flow, especially in our congested areas and across railroad tracks. The school district’s expertise is in student learning, not traffic/pedestrian flow on public roadways

Please consider attending this meeting to voice your opinion.
