Help Fund Important Program for Our Kids

The PTA wants to send one more final reminder about our upcoming Hollywood Nights fundraiser Saturday, May 30 from 3 pm - 10 pm at The Station in Brook field. By attending, you will greatly help fund the Artist in Residence program planned for next school year (over 60% of the ticket price will go toward this program).

We hope to work with Sonata Kazimieratiene, a ceramicist and muralist (who happens to live in Brookfield) during an 8-week residency in which she will work with all the children to design and create permanent pieces of artwork for the memorial rain garden on our school grounds. Ms. Kazimieratiene is an accomplished artist who has created large- and small-scale works at several area libraries, park districts and even O’Hare Airport. Our kids will experience the creative process from start to finish — from brainstorming ideas for possible pieces, to working with the existing landscape to determine size and placement, to using various techniques to make their ideas a reality.

Our school has applied for an Illinois Arts Council grant which will fund up to 60% of the total cost of the residency. We will find out whether we have received the grant in mid-June, and the PTA is responsible for funding the balance of the project. If we are unable to do this, the residency may not take place, or will be severely scaled back.

The Hollywood PTA and Cultural Arts committee traditionally provide a “large scale” artist residency every three years, ideally providing each student with two significant artistic experiences during their time at Hollywood. In recent years, the students have worked with an artist to create the ceramic mural outside the gym doors; and have experienced the theater first-hand during the Child’s Play Touring Theater residency in 2007.

We hope you will consider joining us this Saturday for a fun day with friends and neighbors, while contributing to an amazing project for the kids next year!
Thank you!
