PTA Meeting Minutes for Thursday, January 8, 2009 – Print
Introduction: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. at the Hollywood School Library. PTA board members in attendance were Laura Tracy, Sue Gersch and Jennifer Perry. Denise Notz, Kierith Kurth, and Maureen Rurka were absent.
Recording Secretary Report: The minutes for the December 4th meeting were not available this evening. They will be approved at the February meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was accepted and approved.
Corresponding Secretary’s Report: A thank you note was sent to the Brookfield Police Department for running the DARE program. Flowers were sent to Judy Johnson. Sue Gersch is working on the invitations for Founders Day, which is scheduled for February 5th.
School News & District News: Ms. DeVylder thanked parents and the PTA for contributions to the Angel Fund. The $1,100 raised benefited 13 families. Ms. DeVylder also received a thank you note from the Riverside Food Pantry for the food collected during the Hollywood School food drive.
Computation Club notes went home today. Computation Club is open to all students but individual invitations went home to students who would most benefit from the extra practice.
Due to lack of interest, Chess Club and Games Galore are not currently being held at Hollywood. Both programs will be offered in the future if there is enough interest.
The Day the Earth Stood Still will be shown at Family Movie Night on January 16th. A volunteer is needed to help Ms. DeVylder that evening.
Committee Reports
Family Reading Night: Family Reading Night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11th. Storytellers from the Riverside Library will entertain. A planning meeting is scheduled for next Thursday at 9am at Jennifer Leimberer’s home. Contact Jennifer Leimberer for more information.
Founder’s Day: In honor of Mrs. Schirmer’s love of gardening, the theme for the 2009 Founder’s Day is ‘garden party’. Invitations will be sent home within the next two weeks.
Holiday Gift Shop: Holiday Gift Shop 2008 was a success. Thanks to all of the volunteer “elves”. The event is not a fund raiser and did lose $175 this year.
Cultural Arts: The Cultural Arts Committee is working with a local Brookfield artist who is a sculpter to develop plans for phase two of the rain garden.
Kindergarten and 1st Grade will attend a performance of Alice in Wonderland.
2nd and 3rd grades will take a field trip to the Riverside Art Center.
4th and 5th grades attended a performance of The Magic Flute. In the spring, there will be a tour of Chicago for both grades.
Adult Quiz Night: Adult Quiz Night is scheduled for February 21st. Details to follow.
Ecology Club: The January meeting of Ecology Club, scheduled for January 20th, will include a raptor presentation by the Little Red Schoolhouse for the younger students. There will be a reptile presentation for older students during Earth Week.
