Hello Hollywood Families,
If you are concerned about the Riverside-Brookfield High School proposed parking lot immediately adjacent to Hollywood Elementary (paving over the tennis courts and the green lot for parking), there are two meetings on Tuesday evening where public comments are encouraged.
1. District 208 Board of Education Committee of the Whole, held in Room 201 at RBHS; Tuesday, May 27. The meeting starts at 7:00 and you need to sign your name on the sheet by the entrance for public comments.
2. Village of Brookfield Public Safety Committee Meeting at 5:00; Brookfield Village Hall
There is also a Village of Brookfield Village Board and Committee of the Whole at 6:30; Brookfield Village Hall but the Agenda indicates that public comments on this subject are not permitted (although I am double-checking that). Please be aware that the Village of Brookfield has not yet been officially approached by District 208 and that District 208 is or will be working through West 40 on this project. The Village government, however, should be made aware of what residents think to make informed decisions regarding student and child safety, traffic onto neighborhood streets, property values, and flooding issues.
Please also be aware that beginning next school year, Hollywood will be home to the District 96’s expanded preschool program. This will increase car traffic to the school, with an anticipated additional 40 preschool-age students from throughout District 96.
A District 96 Board of Education member asked why no one from the Hollywood area showed up to speak at their meeting last week. At the District 208 Board of Education meeting two weeks ago, several Hollywood residents and some others spoke out against the proposal, but more are needed to both show up and to write letters.
Public comment is only limited for the first meeting of the night, the Village Board meeting. However at the very end of the second meeting, the Committee of the Whole, anyone can get up and speak about anything. The agenda can be found on page 116 of the packet for the meeting on Tuesday, May 27.
